Working in the Sim Lab with a group has been very fun and challenging. On our first Sim Lab, my group and I had to help a "person" who had taken a fall down the stairs outside the CAPS building. Our first try was a complete failure; not only did we not call 9-1-1 beforehand we also ripped the patient's leg off! We had little to no communication, which contributed to the chaos that ensued.
Our second and third Sim Labs were a lot better; by the time we did those we had more time to build a plan with our teammates and work on our communication skills. We had to figure out what was wrong with the patient using what we learned in class. During the third lab, one of my teammates was told to call 9-1-1 and they actually called 9-1-1 when they were supposed to call a certain number to talk to our teacher Mrs. Snodgrass. It was so funny that literally fell to the ground laughing.
My skill set has had an "upgrade", in a way. I am way better at communicating with others and I've learned how to identify ankle sprains and fractures, as well as heatstroke; which will come in handy if I go into the medical field. My communication skills will be useful no matter what occupation I choose to go into, and I'm. thankful that Sports Medicine and the Sim Labs have helped me with it.
